No second draft unless there is a first

Many of my career coaching clients agonize over their CV. It can’t feel too good for them, nor does it look pretty. I know this feeling all too well after my own CV send-out attempts in the past.

One of the first steps in my coaching process with career focused clients is to ask for a copy of their CV. So often when I ask for it the body language messages I pick up from the client are part relief and part terror.

Which is when I gained clarity on the fact that there cannot be a second draft without the first being produced. I welcome your ideas on this below.

My questions to you, to ponder for this week are:

  • Who is a safe audience to which you can ask for feedback on your first draft?
  • What draft, if you started, would have a big impact on something you are doing this week?
  • Who could you offer to help with a first draft or outline of something to help get them started?

What different language and possibilites could you employ? Here are 3 to action this week:

  • In your next break (that looks like NOW to me) spend 10mins starting a first draft to something you have been putting off
  • And in the break after that spend another 10mins adding to the first bit you just did šŸ˜‰
  • Review something you wrote or delivered 2 months ago and ask yourself, would you do it the same way again if you had to do it tomorrow? If the answer is no give yourself a high-five as you are able to see where you have grown and/or be ready to implement valuable feedback so that you can further develop your value offerings.

As always, if you are ready to bust a belief, feel / look / sound / be different, and are keen to tap into a support team then you know where to find me…………HH

On a personal note this week ~

New clarity gained on my book first draft beliefs I had that no longer serve me. Flying forwards…….

Who else do you know that likes thinking & questioning? Plus being the best that they can be? Well forward this on and invite them into the community šŸ™‚

  1. Nice post Heidi – I often find the fear that you have before you commence the first draft is the big problem! Once you start writing, they usually evaporate!
