I heard something awesome at yoga over the weekend. It was at the end of our practice, when we were sitting having a quick meditation just at the end of class. The yoga teacher posed the question: forget about the term ‘yoga’, think, right now, feel into, what is ‘yoga’ for you. And that got me thinking, where is it we overuse some terms, especially those that we have perhaps negative or heavy concepts around. In the past ‘yoga’ was things to me such as exercise, mandatory, a bill to pay, something I’m not very good at…..blah blah blah.
But with a refining and questioning of what a term REALLY means for us, now, (or what it could mean) in 2016, you might very well find that it means something completely different. What’s one word at the moment that you have a heavy connotation with?
Go revise it.
Is it ‘dishes’, ‘laundry’, ‘saving’ or ‘unpacking’. Lean in to what it means for you and have fun in the new space.
On a personal note, yoga for me is connection, freedom, flexibility, fitness, mental wellbeing, challenge, meditation, quietness, space and love. And if you saw me at 5:35am I do lie there often wondering if it’s worth getting up. Yet that wrestle with my mind is actually adding to my pleasure, once I’ve gone to yoga class mind you, as it makes it feel oh so much sweeter.
