Dishonouring

Honour the limitations of the body.

Dishonour the limitations of the mind.

I am loving this quote this week. Am on a bit of a yoga kick at the moment and it was on the wall of inspiration there, winking at me.

All too often I have done it in reverse – dishonouring the bod, honouring the mind. Most of the time I got away with it. Being in an environment where I am challenged to review many of the limitations of the mind I have reached a place of deeper happiness and gratitude, as well as wonder at where so many beliefs come from and how we can choose to settle for them.

An example in my mind recently that I discovered was related to speed and things happening too quickly (more on that in another post in a few weeks) – with my coach, getting to the core of what was the truth for me made me realize that actually I had adopted that belief from others and had not reviewed it or upgraded it for myself. My truth is I love things happening quickly, and as long as I have some me-time for reflection, planning and review I say bring on the fast lane!!

Many of our beliefs make sense for a time. For example, as a child, we need strong boundaries set in place for safety and practical reasons – “stay behind the yellow line” (because a massive fast train is approaching), “walk to the traffic light and wait, I promise you can be the first one to press the button” (I’m afraid if you run and beat your sister you may trip and fall onto the road), “sit down while you drink” (because I don’t want you to spill that all over the computer keyboard).

In my profession I spend a lot of time helping clients deconstruct some of them as they no longer serve. We can run fast. We can balance things. We can cross the line.

When we get to a stuck point in life the good news is it comes down to only a handful of things that could be causing the stuck-ness. In my experience, as a coach working out the limiting belief is pivotal to the client being able to move. Working out where that belief came from is just an interesting side note.

Warning – the next statement comes with a dodgie soundtrack…..”I like to move it move it, I like to move it move it, I like to move it move it, I like to, Moooove it!!!!” Ring if you want to moooooove…….
