On the weekend, standing in line at the market to buy some scrummy free-range eggs, I was amused to watch people’s selection habits when it came to their eggs.

I’d guesstimate that 96% of the eggs for sale at this organic stall were brown-shelled eggs. The remaining 4% were white.

But did you know that if we were in Canada it would be the other way round, as they prefer white-shelled eggs.

As a nation, Canadians generally believe white-shelled eggs to be more nutritious and delicious. Australians on the other hand believe, wait for it…….yup, that brown-shelled eggs are better for them and yummier. So Canadians have breeds of chickens that lay way more whities. And we here in Oz have chooks that lay darker shelled eggs predominantly (or tan if you want to be really specific). So in Oz, caterers and large-scale kitchens generally get the white ‘rejects’ and on the supermarket shelves we are dished up the scrummier-looking brown-shelled ones.

Any nutritious or delicious differences – nope, not according to scientists and nutritionists!!

So what makes us believe that one egg is preferable to another?

One workplace preferable to another?

One car over another?

Beliefs and values, that’s what. So if you are not getting the results you want you need to go back to your values and beliefs and review what it is that you believe. Check in with yourself and be honest, are they really serving you?

On a personal note, I’ve uncovered an old belief around a person from my past who I held a lot of negative feelings towards. I was holding the belief that their behaviour & actions boxed me into something. When really they were doing quite the opposite and letting me fly. Let that one go Ms H and step out of the box into the sunlight! Right, that’s me all sunny now & super grateful to them. Phew!! I’m off to cook some eggs and write a gratitude note (I bought speckled ones btw at the market 😉
