Here’s the scene: awesome Candidate A gets a new job with a great payrise. They walk into the role and then panic. They may start to doubt their abilities, feel fearful that they are going to be caught out beyond their depth and capabilities. Or feel too stretched to be able to do their best.

It’s kind of like being given your Bachelor’s degree the day you start at Uni, and then telling you that all you need to do is earn it over the next 3 years.

But I have been witnessing that this is actually a common phenomenon (say that 3 times fast!), this step up to the new challenge and then start to feel comfortable later down the track. Kind of like when you lose weight but the mind hasn’t caught up with the new physical reality yet. Or like someone becoming a new parent and then panicking because they don’t feel that they have the instruction manual to go with their new bub.

We are given some powers, or a mantra, or people bestow some ability upon us but we don’t yet feel congruent with it as we don’t feel we have yet earned it. And then as soon as you do feel you have earned it is when you need to be going for the next level of challenge or initiation. Yet in so many aspects of our world we feel we need to prove it first and then get the certificate. And then coast for a while. Whereas the opposite law is in effect – we need to be given it first, which is like an initiation, and then go and prove it/share it/be it/own it. Which comes down to our intention.

And then step up for the next challenge quick smart, otherwise if we don’t put additional demands on ourselves what need have we to keep growing?

How awesome is that?! And the people who seem to tap into a good environment with people who support them, challenge them to the right levels and help them grow seem to be the ones who fly the highest and earn the mega bucks.

My suggestion to you over this week is:

~ to mentally frame your certificate, you know the one, that let’s you and the world know what is your stretch and your next step.
