We are utterly amazing creatures us human-beans with what we focus on. Here is a great example that’s got me thinking this week:
Sunny day (in itself that is not so exciting, except when it’s the first really sunny day in many weeks).
Gorgeous beach.
Carload of friends rock up.
Everything you think you’d need for a 2yo to have a great day out.
A couple of tantrums later the beach day was not going so well. Said 2yo was instead focusing on a toy that wasn’t theirs. And obsessing over wanting a go.
Which got me thinking to obsession, focus and the grand scale of things in life. What’s going to have the most impact with your focus? How often do you check in and question that, when different areas of obsession come up? I used to have one about clothes, to the extent that I would keep a diary of what I’d worn on diff days so as I didn’t double up the next time I saw someone. Sheeeesh, how much energy did that consume?!
Yet, with both obsessions listed above we were both asking for/seeking respect & recognition, and thought we would somehow be more through our actions. Weird huh? And in the process we missed many of the good things. Sunshine and beach is one example. Earning the right to stand in front of a new room full of students and share value. To-date I’ve been able to do that with 17,000 individuals; as students, staff and more recently as coaching clients ~ every single one I’d remember their face. If not a particular learning moment we shared. That’s a lot of different learning styles and classes to share valuable content with, what a privilege!
My suggestion to you to ponder over this week:
~ Observe yourself for a day as if through a CCTV camera, notice any funny little obsessions going on? If yes, please fix  if they don’t serve you 🙂 and enjoy the sunshine…in whatever you ‘re wearing!Â
As always, if you are ready to bust a belief, feel / look / sound / be different, and are keen to tap into a support team then you know where to find me…………HH
And who else do you know that likes thinking & questioning? Plus being the best that they can be? Well forward this on and invite them into the community 🙂
