I had a really interesting conversation with my partner last week, which revolved around the topic of perceived future threats vs. actual reality.
He just started back at Uni doing a post-grad course in Math (a fact that interests me – in Australia you can receive ‘free funding’ for almost any course up to the value of $4,000 if you have not yet completed a Bachelor degree, but for post-grad it’s a totally different situation. Am intrigued why one is generously funded and the other is from your own pocket, when the justification for the lower-level courses’ funding is “we need to upskill Australians”).
Back on track Heidi…….Anyway, in the lead up to the first day of Uni he’d been really stressed around the course and his choice to pause his “part in the rat-race” for the year. I have been observing this stress (ok, I’ll be completely honest, also feeling and buying into some of this stress), thinking and actioning as many different things as I thought of to alleviate any of this stress. Only to greet a beaming him after the first day.
His first comment was “I had based all my ideas on this Uni experience from my last Uni experience.” Some obvious differences being last time he was a new immigrant, began his studies in a foreign language, had just finished military service and then literally stumbled into a new culture, felt out of place, lacked confidence, and the list goes on. Those things are not present or are no longer a big deal in this present experience.
My questions to you, to ponder for this week are:
- which area of your life, if you chose to have some emotional plastic surgery, would have a profound difference for you and your current results?
- how many places are you allowing ……..(insert threat X, eg. stress)…….. to creep in for future happenings, basing that ….(X)……. on past experiences or unrealistic realities
- what evidence do you truly have that it is ‘going to be …( X-ful, eg. stressful)………..’? Tell yourself in a loud voice “It’s going to be like this …(new positive thought pattern)……………” Because you know what – YOU GET TO DECIDE!
What different language and possibilities could you employ? Here are 3 to action this week:
- What else is possible?
- What different decision am I going to make RIGHT NOW, if I haven’t already made it?
- Who is having the experience that I would like to have, and what beliefs must they have to be getting those results?
As always, if you are ready to bust a belief, feel / look / sound / be different, and are keen to tap into an awesome support team then you know where to find me…………HH
On a personal note this week ~
We’ve had a noisy bit in the political arena in Australia this past week. While turfing out some stuff from the garage (you know that musty old papers smell from assignments from Primary School? Am sure you get the picture) I discovered some intersting political links of my own. In Grade 6 I was one of four political candidates running in our school election, my party being called ‘Heidi’s Heroes’.
Dramatically taking power in a leadership coup, along with my fellow coalition leader (we struck up a deal on the middle of the oval during a particularly heated game of lunchtime cricket), only to have the actual vote numbers read out in front of the whole constituate (Grade 5’s and 6’s) after the votes had been counted {our principal had obviously never studied politics as the twit read out the seperate number of votes obtained – you are not supposed to do that with a coalition}. Heidi’s Heroes meagre 6 votes barely contributed to the sweeping coalition victory, which is a moment I think I decided to be embarassed on stage & vowed never to dabble in politics again.
Emotional plastic surgery being performed this week on stage embarrassment beliefs that no longer serve me. Flying forwards…….
Who else do you know that likes thinking & questioning? Plus being the best that they can be? Well forward this on and invite them into the community 🙂
